Title: Pumped about Vegas trip
Tags:
Blog Entry: My trip to Vegas is only 13 days away and I am obsessing on it. I am spending hours on the Internet doing searches on clubs and restaurants. I'm hunting down reviews on casinos and reading opinions on the best games to play, how to find the best slots, and what hotel has the best sports book. When I am not browsing the Internet I am reading about Vegas and gambling. I have bought 2 books The Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas 2010 and The Unofficial Guide to Casino Gambling . I am not recommending either book, not because they are bad, but because I am too inexperienced to know if they are any good. Someone on the forums described me as a semi-Vegas virgin. I would have to say that is a pretty accurate description. I have been to Vegas twice before. My first time in Vegas I felt like I was walking around with a lease tied around my neck. I was sent to Vegas that time for a convention. I was accompanying my boss, the owner of the company I worked for at the time. Even after the daily seminars at the Rio were over he would not stop being my boss. I had to accompany him each night to the blackjack tables where he coached me on how to play and scolded me for every mistake I made. Then away from the tables it was “stay away from those slots, they're for suckers”. Once, while downtown, I sneaked away under the pretense of going to the washroom. I found a 2 dollar table where I could lose my money at a slower clip. I was soon found and dragged back to a 5 dollar table and his coaching. If I really went into detail you would find that that trip was even worse than it sounded. The second trip is not worth mentioning. It was just a one night layover on a long motorcycle road trip. I can only say that I had more fun on that overnight stay than I did the 5 days of first trip. But, enough of that, this entry is not about my past trips. It is about the trip I am going to have 13 days from today. I am doing this trip solo. I made the decision to go to Vegas just a little over a week ago. I have a vacation from work I lose if I do not take it before years end. I had planned on just relaxing at home, then I decided to go to NYC. I was going to hit the jazz clubs there. When I went online to find a hotel room I freaked. A closet costs 300 a night in Manhattan on a weekend. Then somewhere in the back of my mind came the thought, “What about Vegas”? So Vegas it is and my thoughts have been obsessed with Vegas since then. I leave the Friday before Halloween. My flight leaves O'Hare at 11:05AM and land in LA at 1:30PM. Then I cool my heels in LAX for 3 freaking hours while I wait for my flight to Vegas. Note to myself: buy a copy of War and Peace to read on the transit to Las Vegas. I arrive at LAS at 5:40PM. Here is where I may have tripped myself up. I have bought a ticket for that day's 9:30 performance of Love at the MGM Mirage. I will be staying at the MGM Grand. That means I have to check into my Hotel, unpack, shower, change and make on time to the Mirage for the show. I am having nightmares about getting lost in some casino maze on the way there. I think I am going to cut it close at best. After that my plans are kind of loose.
