My Vacation
Posted On 07/21/2008 20:54:25 by Rhonda
My Vacation is over :(

I guess its time to get back to work now lol.  I had a great time in Charleston. We had a beach house on Seabrook Island.  That is a very private island which is guard gated and very protected and its  so gorgeous in there.  I have never been to one place where you can see so much different wild life animals in one setting .

In the back yard there is an alligator that lives about 6 to 8 ft from the back deck. We fed him all the time.  He loved our pancakes and he loves corn on the cob lol. We named him Wally. One night we were standing on the deck watching him and someone knocked a plastic bowl over the edge and it must of irritated him because he was up to the deck in seconds and took the bowl and he was shaking it from side to side , then took it into the water,of course we never seen that bowl again. He was very entertaining to watch.

In the front yard every morning and evening there were so many deer, they would come right up to the house as long as we stayed on the deck.

My brothers mother in law (who owns the beach house) keeps feed at the house all the time for the deer, so they stick close by. We also put seeds out all over the deck which keeps the birds and squirrels close by. The raccoons are not to shy either, they know they can come to this house and find food.

It was great to walk down to the beach every day. I loved that it is a private beach ,didn't have to share with to many people. The weather was nice two days I was there, the rest of the time it was cloudy or raining. We still spent a lot of time on the beach though. We also made some drinks and went down at night with our flashlights , I enjoyed chasing the crabs back into the water LOL .

My brothers taught me how to play corn hole ( I think is the name of it) and I really sucked at it, but one of them are going to send me that game so I can practice for the next time but I think horse shoes is still more fun to play.

Down town Charleston was so interesting with all the historical homes and buildings. Those houses are just amazing. It was so hot and humid , thank God for the fountains we could get wet in. We were at this one  historical cemetery and the oldest head stone I found was from 1721. You could read most of the head stones but some were hard to read.

Now  I have to tell you about the "TREE" it is the most amazing tree I have ever seen in my life. It is huge !! Its the Angel Oak Tree. The branches are so big they have 2x4 boards holding them up to give them support. The trunk is so big it makes you look tiny when you stand by it. I cant wait to post pictures of this tree.  It is very protected  and guarded . No one is allowed to climb on it and if anyone is caught doing anything to this tree its a 5,000 dollar fine and jail time. I know without seeing it  , it is hard to imagine how massive it is but its height is 75 feet, Circumference is 25.5 ft,  It covers 17,000 sq feet of shade ,The largest limb circumference is 11.25 feet and the length of it is 89 feet, The tree is about 1400 years old.

The worse part of this trip was coming home.  When I got to the airport I found our flight was delayed by 45 min but that was nothing compared to our connecting flight , we got to DC and we were hurrying to get to our plane because of the delay in Charleston but when we got to the gate we found it was delayed 3 hours so we hang out in the AP all day just to find that now our  flight is not leaving till the next morning. So United got us a room. It just sucked !!  I was so happy to finally arrive in my beautiful Vegas.

I will try to post pictures as soon as I can especially of the tree, but on the last day at the beach it was very windy and I think I got sand in the camera so after work today , I get to look for a camera repair shop lol.

Its good to be back home
