Come to regular Songsalive! workshops and develop collaborations, meet industry guests, showcase and workshop your music for feedback in a professional and supportive environment. Songsalive! holds workshops where songwriters gather to share their songs, gain feedback and develop relationships within the songwriting communities we have created around the world.
The first half is solely dedicated to an in-the-round workshop where writers present one song each - either on tape, CD or live - followed by a guest speaker/industry discussion in the second half and plenty of time to talk and network. Our workshops often feature guest speakers representing all facets of the industry from A&R, publishers, successful producers, CD production and distribution execs and, of course, writers and composer who share their ideas, tips & techniques on all aspects of the songwriting craft.
Guest Speaker Steven Kalas; Songwriting and the Authentic Self.
Steven and his band, PaperCymbal play everything from driving pop-rock to tasty, acoustic folk guaranteed to hammer you with melody and take you apart with sheer poetry. Steven writes lyrics that are a gaping mirror into the human experience---extraordinary images of ordinary life.
You'll hear songs that are acoustic, folk laced pop, unique and eclectic; a combination of folk-rock and pop; a voice that's been compared with Cat Stevens and a style that morphs The Beatles, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Crosby Stills Nash, Paul Simon, Matchbox 20, Maroon 5, Rod Stewart and well...Steven Kalas.
Steven is a therapist, Pastoral counselor, freelance writer, songwriter, stand-up comedian, and former Episcopal priest. He travels nationally as a professional public speaker to youth, colleges and adult audiences. His words are at once warm, entertaining, and challenging. Steven will make you laugh and think He also writes the bi-weekly column Human Matters for the Las Vegas Review Journal, and syndicated to other newspapers across the United States. www.StevenKalas.com
