Another Biloxi Blast!
Woke up Saturday morning and asked the bride if she wanted to take a drive up to Biloxi. She told me she was babysitting the grandson that night but I could go if I wanted to. I didn’t ask “are you sure?” - just bolted for the overnight bag and hit the door. Like I didn’t get enough gambling in last month in Vegas!
I stopped at this new coffee joint which has the greatest name: “Bad A$$ Java”. The only reason I mention it is because they asked me if I wanted ‘coffee’ ice cubes. Never heard of that before but it is an ingenious idea. As the ice melts the strength of the coffee stays the same.
Armed with caffeine, I pointed the trusty Ford Ranger West on I-10. Less than 2 hours later I was at the Beau Rivage where I had $25 free play. I played in on a nickel MultiStrike VP machine and turned it into $79. Took that up to the VP bar and had a delicious bloody mary, although it wasn’t as good as on previous visits. Something was missing; not sure what.
I left the Beau up a few bucks and drove up to the IP. I had no room reserved so I was hoping my host could hook me up. I played for an hour before calling her, drinking non-alcoholic beer and not losing or winning anything significant.
Called my host at around 10am and she practically laughed at me for even thinking I could get a room on a Saturday with no notice. This never used to be the case. We’ve been going to the IP for 12 years and up until hurricane Katrina blew through in 2005 we never had a problem getting a room with little notice.
I did make a reservation for next week, 14-15 June for the bride’s birthday. I was hungry so I went up to the sports bar and ordered up a burger and fries. I was quietly fuming inside thinking that I knew they had plenty of room. The parking garage was half empty and the place wasn’t that crowded. Either she was just being a biatch or she is a low level host with limited rooms assigned. I have never had a host I didn’t like until this gal waltzed into my life.
I decided to try a hail mary and called an old friend who used to be assistant general manager but got demoted after the buyout of the IP after Katrina. He is now working in food and beverage but I figured I’d give it a shot. I left a message on his voice mail and started playing some VP at the 2nd floor bar while ‘enjoying’ an O’Doul’s. Ick.
As fate would have it my old acquaintance called and had a room reserved in my name. No rooms available, huh? I told him about my frustration with my ‘assigned’ host and he said he’d look into it.
I left the hardly touched O’Doul’s on the bar and headed to the parking garage for my tiny overnight bag. Checked in quickly with no one in line and was given room 1736. View of the parking garage but who cares? The only time I’m in the room is to pass out!
It was barely 1pm and I was finally ready to suck down some quality Crown Royal and play my heart out. I only brought $300 with me and I was already down about $80. I sat down at my favorite game maker machine with one of my favorite games ‘Pick ‘em Poker’. I played my standard ‘double-round-de-round’ method of playing each game for 2 hands each, or more if I won.
I usually mix keno in with these games and played 5 spots for 25 cents a roll. On my second or third roll I hit 5 out of 5 for $202! Cool! I cashed out my TITO and cashed that in. Got a drink at the bar and went back to the same machine and got dealt 4-threes with a ‘kickah’ on DDB VP for another $200 win. This is fun!
I played throughout the afternoon going up and down, but mostly up. I have never had so many 2-3-4 quads on DB VP ever. This was theme all day. All my hits were on DB VP, not DDB, not Bonus, Bonus Deluxe or any other variation. As much Crown as was flowing through my being I still took note of this!
Found out they were having a drawing every hour on the hour from 6-9pm. Went to the player’s club and got 9 whopping entries which apparently are earned on daily play. Filled them out with a borrowed pen at the coffee stand sitting area. When I was in Vegas back in December they were having a daily drawing and the player’s club would print out your entries with all your information saving you the inconvenience of writer’s cramp. Take a lesson IP!
I planted myself at the 2nd floor VP bar while waiting for each drawing announcement. It’s a good thing I did. I hit about 3 sets of 4OAK 2-3-4s and quad Aces, all on DB VP. I was up around $500 by the time the drawing was over. No, I didn’t win any freeplay or the Mercedes, but I had my own good fortune!
After the drawing I was hungry so I returned to the sports bar and ordered the appetizer sampler and a big ‘ol glass of ice water. The sampler had onion rings, chicken tenders, BBQ chicken, potato skins and some yummy honey mustard and ranch dipping sauces.
I played my yinger off for hours. I was up for a long, long time, but as Forest Gump said, “Ah am not a smart man”. I bumped it up to 50 cents and dollars and put all but $100 back. Stupid sailor. When I looked at my watch it was 8am. Yes, 8am. I didn’t even put in a night like that last month in Vegas!
Dragged my a$$ to the room and passed out. After drinking for 17 hours straight I’m surprised I could find my room!
At 11am the fire alarm went off. I think they do this on purpose to get the drunks out of their rooms on time. I had a late checkout so I rolled over and caught another hour and half of sleep. Got up a half hour before checkout time and headed for the parking garage.
I was really hungry but I didn’t want to sit and wait in the coffee shop. So I drove down to highway 90 and found a McDonald’s across from the Hard Rock. Had a Big Mac which is terrible for you which is why I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don’t think I’ve had one of these in 20 years. What is that special sauce?
Since I was there I took my large diet Coke across the street to the Hard Rock and gave DDB VP a try. I should have just drove home. Lost fast and quick and before I threw away my last $20 I headed for home.
I felt like I was still a little tipsy even though I’d been off the sauce for a whole 7 hours. But I made it home without incident and stopped for a giant steak sub at Quiznos before going home.
I had a really great time this trip. The machines were hitting. It was only my stupidity that prevented me from coming home a winner. If I had gone to bed an hour earlier it would have been different. Still, I had a blast and only dropped about $280 total.
Back to work tomorrow! Thanks for reading.
