What's the cheapest from airport to downtown?
Looking for a cheaper way to get downtown (staying at the Fitz) from the airport when I arrive rather than a taxi. Anyone with experience...please let me know. Thank you very much in advance!

The absolute cheapest way to get downtown from the airport is the CAT bus ... $1.75 one way.
Go down to the "zero level", by the private / hotel limos, and go down to the far right end. Take either the #108 bus, or the # 109 North. Trips will take approx. 45 - 50 minutes. The #108 bus will drop you off right next to the downtown Walgreens, very close to the Fitz. The # 109 North will take you to the CAT bus terminal, which will give you a 2 block walk.

After you've been sitting on a plane for hours, do you really want to sit on a bus for another hour? Do a shuttle such as Bell: http://www.bell-trans.com/shuttle.php $8 one way, or buy the round trip voucher for $15.
My brother takes the bus, schlepping the luggage on and off. Fastest he ever made it was 40 min, longest was 1:30. But if you do want cheapest, that's it! You can catch it going back too, but after you win, you'll be able to afford a taxi for about $25.

I did the CAT in May and Bell Trans in August. $1.75 vs $8 and both took about an hour. The bus stopped more often, but Bell Trans drops people at Strip hotels on the way Downtown while the bus travels off strip. I travel carry-on only, so I didn't have a problem with luggage. To answer your question, I would go for the bus. Jim from Mi

It's been years since I did a Bell but I guess things must have changed. They used to have separate shuttles for downtown and the strip.

Re: What's the cheapest from airport to downtown?
I just got back from a downtown trip a couple weeks ago, I took the cat bus for the first time after reading about it on various boards. It went fine, no problems at all, took the 108 and was dropped off by that walgreens, I timed it and it was exactly 44 min from arrival at the bus to arrival downtown.
It would have been even faster but the bus tended to get ahead of schedule due to little traffic and would end up sitting at each stop a couple min to avoid getting ahead. Nothing wrong with the clientel either, obviously not wealthy people but I'm from the midwest and I didnt feel uncomfortable at all.
Would definitley say, go for it if you want to save some cash.

Here's one more vote for the bus. (108 or 109 NORTH makes no difference.) A shuttle may take a little less time, but only if you don't have to wait 15 minutes for it to leave the airport and if it doesn't make a dozen stops before yours. It's pretty darn hard to beat $1.75 for the CAT, no tips required. T-10

Re: What's the cheapest from airport to downtown?
I tried the bus a few times and it was fine. But I did decide loosing an hour of my Vegas Time was not worth saving $5-6 and started taking the shuttle again. The last two trips (July and Oct) the shuttle (Bell) has been too empty to have one for the strip and one for downtown...we dropped off on the strip first and my trip downtown has taken over an hour. One time we alos waited almost 20 minutes for the shuttle to fill up enough for the driver to leave. Looking at the airport, taxi lines and resturants you can really see the slow down in Vegas.
I travel light so the bags are not a real issue. I take local transit to commute to work, so I am comfortable with it. And now, I am not saving any time or money. I buy my RTC 3day passes online anyway and this only means activating it a day earlier....If I am staying downtown I will take the bus

To amend my post above, I've since gotten the old fart discount card (what they call a "reduced fare ID" and the bus now costs only 75 cents ($2 on the Deuce). If you're 60 or over, be sure to get one! Details on their website. Getting the picture ID is free and took no more than 5 minutes. T-21
