Why would you call being tidy annoying? I don't think the maid would mind at all... My question about tipping maid service is this; Is it usually the same person cleaning your room the whole time during your stay? And do they keep their tips or do they have to pool their tips with others? I've often wondered about this.

He he I know, my husband hates people dropping trash, so I am not too sure what he is going to do either.

Hmmm....I guess annoying to the occasional traveling companions (not my hubby) who then feel like they have to clean up their messes too !!
And I think that sometimes it will be the same person cleaning your room and sometimes not. Factors that affect that include individual shift schedules and whether or not you leave a "do not disturb" sign on long enough for the next shift to have to take over. I've read on some travel sites that if you want to make sure the right person gets the tip, you should leave something daily instead of waiting until the end of your stay. I don't know about pooling tips. I kinda hope not - I'd like to think the tip I leave goes directly to the person who cleaned my room.

Ok then take it from me, first and second hand. What she said it is so true. I have spent just over 120 nights (not consecutive) year to date in LV strip hotels strip or close to strip properties. Staying this long in Vegas allowed me to become friends, most working in a strip hotel front desk, food and beverage and house keeping...
I hear it from the hotel staff, my friends talk about it, I seen, heard and had to deal with lots of the crap myself.
My employer is a contractor on a project on this strip. This brings me to Vegas every other week for a week or more.

One of my online "Friends" here.. once he knew I worked R/S.. Privately asked me for stories. I guess he wanted me to run down some "Hot & Racy" tales.
I can tell.. I think a total of 5. None of which invloved me going beyond being a "Waiter"..
On the other hand? I think I can come up with about 250 stories.. that when put into context.. would make any "rational" person sick.
I believe it has some of those "Good Old Days" of the Sands in there.
-------
What I can say though.. is the absolutely BEST food I have ever eaten was at the Wynn.. Quality - Presentation - and everything else. I also felt many times going home.. "Job well done Gene".. That probably happened once at the Sands. The last couple of years at the Sands.. it was like "What the F- am I still doing here?" Eventually I came to my senses and left.
I'm not saying that everything Steve Wynn did was 100% and above board. Nor was the old Sands hotel a crap hole.
When I GOT to the Sands in 1979.. It was a "Dream in the desert".. When it was sold from Hughes corp.. that is when IMHO the best people (mostly within the casino areas) left for the DI. Which made the DI.. to die for. And why the Wynn sits on that property today.
Wilbur Clark must have had a lot of "Magic dust" in his pockets when he opened that property.. and whatever "Magic" the Sands had.. blew across the road to the DI.

If you want to agree to disagree.. go ahead. But you can not say that the $5 bottle of water is a rip off... "Vegas is turning into crap".. if NYC, Chicago, Orlando, LA, etc.. are doing the exact same thing.
The correct well traveled person might say something like.. The Travel Industry is "Turning into crap!". Not single out Las Vegas..
Yes everybody can have a different experience...
"Hey I won a million dollars at that casino... but I would never eat anything from their 2-1 buffet!"
Speak of.. What is Europe really like?

I've seen those clear "Corn" plastic cups.. They really need to start making EVERYTHING out of that stuff.
It biodegrades... great for the planet.

So about 8 years ago I'm back in Community College.. taking classes in all kinds of neat stuff.
One of the most wonderful ladies I met in a long time.. we got to be friends. To bad the A-Hole teacher canceled last class.. other wise I would have gotten her contact info. .but hey. People get colds.
This is her story.
She is African. Not African-American.. A real African.
She is busting her ass working house keeping.. Her boss is a total monster. (I could relate)
Then she goes into one of those $5000 a night suites. In the bathroom... The Bidet was holding a big fat turd.
She goes to her supervisor.. and says "I am NOT cleaning THAT up~!" To which.. Management read her the riot act.. She turned around.. went down stairs. Clocked out and left. Never to return.
She was at Community College to get started on a college education. I'm sure she is out there doing great.. not pulling crap out of some douchebags room.
Yea.. true story.
I can only imagine what people do to the rooms when they lose their $100 a day "Gambling monies"..

Thats one of the most ridiculous things I've heard in a long time, she really thought that she was above cleaning up the bathroom with its associated "problems"
That would be akin to a mechanic that wouldnt work on your car because it hadnt been washed.
hearing that I might stop tipping the maids altogether.

I never knew that the price of mini bar item was the measuring stick of whether a city has turned to crap or not.

As for non work related, not a camera person have only the odd shot of a nice hotel room or the odd peson like the guy who passed out in front of my hotel room door at the Paris. I was staying in a P room these rooms are at the end of the hall accessed via a small corridor.
I woke thhis morning to some awful smell, thinking the toilet backed up.
Leaving the room right out side my door I nearly tripped over a half naked guy pants pulled down below his knees, passed out cold laying in puke, piss and pooh, a few feet away an empty bottle of Jack D. He sprayed my door real good. The source of my odor
It took security 10 minutes to wake this guy up. I left when secruity called for an ambulance. Talking to security couple of days later. This dude from Texas was on a 4 day binge and somehow ended up in front of my door. He wasn't even staying at the Paris.
