Default Car rental mileage credit

I would like to get the triple mileage bonus credit under the promotion that Dollar / United have going until mid May. If I take the credit it will add 1800 miles to my United mileage summary (renting two times).

Question - My husband who fears nothing always drives in the crazy Las Vegas traffic, and we always rent the car in his name with him the designated driver.

If we rent it in my name, listing me in the driver (and I don't even want to think about actually driving in that traffic), is there a place close to the car rental lot exit where we can safely change drivers ? (out of their sight of couse). Thanks

You may want to do the contract in your name and add him as a driver. It may be worth it even if there is a extra fee for it.

Check the cost of the rental not using the promotion as these "specials" often increase the rental fee substantially. Check and see if it's a reasonable amount. I remember a CAA (AAA) special at Hertz for a free tank of gas that raised the price by $100 (and that was in the days of $1.50 a gallon gas).

I think Dollar charges $10 a day for extra drivers. They might not charge if you are a Dollar Express member. I don't know for sure as I'm not a member. Don't even think about letting your husband drive without listing him. If by chance you get in an accident, you give Dollar (or your insurance) an out from any claims. Is it really worth a few FF miles?

Also, why are you so afraid of driving in Vegas? If one has a drivers liscense, one should be capable of drivng pretty much anywhere not just on streets with no traffic.

Call Dollar and ask if a spouse is allowed to drive the car without the additonal driver authorization form/payment. In Florida the spouse is automatically allowed to drive the car of partner that rented the car without the need to be added to the contract. Not a child, not a parent, just the spouse. It has something to do with the state recognizing a married couple as a single entity.
