Binions is a BJ wasteland
There are no playable games. Out of every single table running last night all but 2 were 6:5. In the whole place!!! The two tables that werent were single deck, double only on 10 and 11 forget what else. I guess the short note is there is no playable bj at Binions anymore. Never thought I would see the day.
You know the saddest thing, all those tables were full so they won't be motivated anytime soon to change.

Re: Binions is a BJ wasteland
Agree with everything you posted. I also noticed during my August trip that the single deck tables were being dealt from a shoe. What's up with that? My only consolation is that I have great memories of playing there when it was a great game, i.e., 3/2 BJ, all single deck pitch, no table maximums, pit bosses that had control of comps, etc.

Thats sad to hear. If the rules downtown are as bad as the strips I really don't see any reason to go there. Full tables too with so many better options a short walk away. People are just dumb.

i wouldn't say people are just dumb, so they play 6/5...people may just not care. i don't go to vegas to win money or stick it to the house. i go for entertainment purposes. if blackjack entertains me, i'll play it. i don't care about the payouts. i care about being entertained.

Thanks for the update. That's too bad about Binions, even if was never my favorite place. I can't remember exactly when their BJ went straight to hell, but I didn't play there earlier this month, September, and maybe a couple months before that. (I do walk in on every trip, however, just to check.) Fortunately, most of the other casinos still have 3:2, though you certainly have to pay close attention these days. (And if someone really doesn't care about the payout, they ARE dumb!) T-22

I don't think you have to be too concerned about sticking it to the house. I'm sure they would be pleased to hear you don't care about payouts. Would you play if they paid even money? How about if they only paid you half for every bet you made? Or better yet what if they didn't pay you at all. Would you still be entertained. Thats like paying $5.00 a gallon for gas when the station on the other corner has it for $2.50. I think I'll stick with dumb.

I play for entertainment. I can't be entertained when the house changes the rules to tilt the game even more in their favor. I don't like feeling like I'm getting screwed, that isn't fun too me. And when I can cross the road to another negative expectation game but normal rules well I'm going to do that.
Remember the odds are in the houses favor on BJ under the best rules so anything after that is just sticking it too us.

I guess I understand greed and business and more money and all that, and I understand the ignorance of most people who frequent las vegas, but enough is enough...pretty soon the best game of blackjack is going to be 1/1 and we will be missing 6/5...like we are now missing 3/2...and thats just sick!

Re: Binions is a BJ wasteland
I don't agree with the poster who is okay with bad rules because he's entertained. However, I spent the better part of my 4 day trip hunting up and down the strip and downtown for playable games with good rules, and the limits were so high on most of the games (video poker, blackjack) that I was wiped out in 5 minutes every time I bought in for a couple hundred bucks. The full-pay jacks or better games that are left on the strip are $1 or $5 denomination. The 3:2 blackjack games with what I'll call "player-friendly" rules are usually $25 minimum or more on the weekends. I'm about convinced that to gamble at all in Vegas, you're going to have to accept some of the sub-par games to be able to play at levels that mortals can afford.

There are still plenty of decent games to be found at less than $25, but you do have to shop around. Keep in mind that the bad games exist and are metastasizing (seems like an appropriate word to use) for only one reason – because the unknowing and/or uncaring play them. It sounds a little like the old expression, "sure, I know the game is crooked, but it's the only one in town!" T-20

Re: Binions is a BJ wasteland
For those that don’t care about “payout”… Look at all those monstrously large hotel/casino “megaresorts”. The huge majority of them were built with “old rules”, or more “player friendly” rules, like 3/2 BJ etc.
Vegas averages approx. 42 million visitors every year. Each tourist averages expenses (not including air fare) of about $2,000 for a trip. That comes out to about $8.5 BILLION annually! If just 10% of that is from “don’t care about payout” attitudes, imagine the savings we the customer could realize if those places wouldn’t try to screw us for every penny we have by way of “sucker bet” rules.
Ignorance is a lack of knowledge/information.
Stupidity is the inability to learn or use information correctly.
“Don’t care about payout” doesn’t sound like ignorance to me.
Blackjack in particular is called the “thinking man’s game”. Those of us who play it seriously know that it’s about the only game in town where knowledge, skill, and decision making on our part can affect the outcome of the game. We don’t go into it just to be entertained.
BJ is also the only game where, if circumstances are right, the player can actually have a mathematical edge over the house. Us serious players learn “Basic Strategy”, and enough of the game math to understand how the various “optional” rules (like 6/5) are screwing us. Add in card counting (which is not illegal, but the casinos hate it because we can turn it into a money making machine against them) and we can take that edge away. “Thinking men” have eradicated their ignorance. To play these “sucker” versions of a game is plain stupid.

OK, here's an example. If you bet $5.00 on a hand of Blackjack, and you are dealt a Blackjack, if you are at a 3:2 table, the dealer will give you your original $5.00, plus $7.50.
If you are at a 6:5 table, the dealer will give you your original $5.00, plus $6.00.

You just lost $1.50. Still entertained?
-SilverStreak
yes...i'm still entertained....i didn't just lose 1.50....i won 6 bucks...looks like a winner to me.
i guess i'm just dumb, that's fine... i don't play enough BJ to worry about it. i'm not an "expert". i don't gamble to win money. i can already pay my bills and still have fun.
video poker not a 9/6 payout...oh no!!!! i'll still play and have a beer or 7...once again, i'm not there to make money.

Re: Binions is a BJ wasteland
When I got back from Vegas in March, I posted about the BJ mess at Binions. I was poo pooed, that it didn't matter, and the tables with the scant clad ladies was worth the horrible payouts. I mentioned then that it would ruin the good payouts.
If people are going to play such poor games, why would the casinos do anything different? It is getting to the point, that some of the Indian casinos are a better bet.

Re: Binions is a BJ wasteland
In 2007 I bought in for $500 at a single deck pitch game with $25 minimums at Binions. I asked for all greens. JUST before the first hand was dealt, I noticed it was 6/5. I immediately cashed out and left. Guess they didn't get the hint.
