Default Funky player quirks/moves

I've seen a lot of weird rituals and superstitions over the years, but a couple of players I ran into this trip were very bizarre.

I was chatting with a pitstiff and the dealer and they suddenly said 'uh oh, he's back' as a player approached the table I was playing 1-1 at in the hi limit area.

The guy pulls out a wad of bills and counts it about 5 times and asks for "all green only" of $1000. He bets $50-$100 for a couple hands ( at the beginning of the double deck as they don't allow mid-entry ) and then scoops up all those green chips and runs off to the cashier.

So the pitstiff and dealer tell me he does this ALL NIGHT on them. Constantly requiring all green on a grand buy-in and then hitting and running ( up or down a few hundred ) and then cashing them in at the cashier and starting the cycle all over again. Oh, and asking to be rated for each and every 4-5 minute playing session all night. So the pitstiff has to fill out MANY MANY sheets for a few minutes at a time on him - a pain in the rear. Plus he takes all the green and makes them do more fills.

Sure enough about 5 min later he is back with all bills and starts the same thing, this time losing a few hands and then quitting, and he's chain smoking and sweating like a pig the whole time - probably from runnning back and forth to the cashier so often.

So this time, when he quits, the pitstiff says she is sick of his antics ( won't let them color him up and its the same waste of time all night she says ). So she tells me I am grandfathered in at 25 min but raises the table to 100 as he likes to bet 50 a lot and she thinks this might keep him away. Then a new guy sits down at 3rd base and asks a different pitstiff standing near him if he can change it to a non-smoking table since neither of us smoke. The pitstiff who had upped the min thinks this is another GREAT IDEA to keep the nuisance guy away - since he is a chain smoker - and puts like 3 no smoking signs up - which I found funny.

Now the guy returns and sees the 100 min and no smoking signs. He asks the dealer if he is grandfathered in at 25 since he's been playing all night and she smiles at me ( I wink at her ) and says he'd have to ask the floorwoman that question. She stays away for a while and then he finally gets her attention and she says "absolutely not, that only applies to players who stay and play continuously like him - she nods at me". He decides to play 100 anyway and goes to light up a cig. I mention its now non-smoking and he starts cussing and says he is being picked on - no chit sherlock.

To deflect the situation some I tell him the guy at 3rd requested the non-smoking switch ( which was true ) and the 3rd baseman verifies it was he who requested it and not the crew. So he plays a few hands and then goes 20 feet away to smoke a cig then back again. So now I'm a little annoyed by his in-and-out playing and I ask him why he constantly cashes in and then re-buys over and over. He starts some drivel about how that's his secret to winning is to quit after any 100 profit or loss and start the cycle again blah blah blah. I told him that is insane and a waste of time for him, the dealers, cashiers, etc., and annoying to watch and have him jumping in and out of the game so frequently. The dealer and floorwoman are listening and smiling BIG at this point. He finally gets the drift and leaves. They thanked me profusely the rest of the night. LOL Later I saw him in the general pit and he was trying to borrow money from his friends - evidently he'd tapped out playing there.

While not at all unusual, I also played with a guy who was one of these "mean bad loser" types who whine and complain about the dealer the whole time they play. When he finally busted out and left the dealer tells me he does this all the time. She said she's tried to tell him that a bad and negative attitude will "make him" lose even more and kills any chance he has at doing well against her. Now I kind of believe in a positive attitude but also believe more in the MATH of the games so I don't think a poor player ( he didn't come close to basic strat ) can overcome the negative EV he's up against ANYWAY. But I do think being so mean and nasty and negative to the dealer is not healthy or necessary or excusable. Most lose no matter how pleasant or mean they are to others, but I don't think it's right to blame the dealers or be so abusive to them. What I found bizarre is that she said he plays 3-4 times a week all year long. OUCH! He's going to age FAST at that rate.

That's sounds like an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to me. We all have it to some degree. Ever leave your house only to drive back to see if you left the garage door up? Or check to see if you locked your front door or turned off the lights? How many times have you done a mental inventory of the things you packed for a Vegas trip?

The sign of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results but it could have been worst, he could have been one of those homeless looking people you pass on the street who's having an argument with the voices in his head.

I have to sit at the same table at my favorite restaurant... Does that make me crazy? We all have our rituals.
