What is the weather like there? Temperatures can vary greatly at the South Rim depending on the season. Summers are usually moderate and highs tend to be in the 80s on the rim. Spring and fall are a bit chillier with highs in the 50s to low 70s. Since the South Rim is more than 7,000 feet above sea level, it does snow in the winter (i.e., from November through February). IN THE AIR (Feb. 21, 2009)Last week my coworker and I went on a short helicopter flight--it was a typical maintenance flight that went six miles out and returned to the terminal. Boy, was it an experience. It's like an unbelievable view from the air because you're not too high up so you can really see the lay of the land below you.
