I hate the Dentist
Posted On: 01/19/2008 18:59:56

So, I had to go to the dentist yesterday for a problem with my tooth that was supposedly fixed before. About two months ago, I went to the dentist because one of my top left molars cracked. I told the dentist that my old dentist said I would need a root canal on it very soon..this dentist said that it looked fine and would just put a crown on it. Well, I got the temp. crown which fell off twice and they said to leave it off until the perm. came in. Ok fine. It finally comes in and I head back to the dentist. I tell him that my tooth has been bothering me but he says it's because I didn't have a temp. crown on.

I get the real crown put on and off I go. Except I'm still in pain. I tough it out and wait for months. Now, it's at the point  that I can't stand the pain. I finally call the dentist and tell them I think I need a root canal. I go to the specialist yesterday and he tells me that I really need one and he could tell that I've been having problems for awhile. So, he numbs me up and starts to drill...HOLY CRAP~~ Incredible amount of pain ...gives me more novacaine...still hurts..about 10 shots later I"m still feeling some of it. The specialist tells me that he can't get the last nerve because it's so small...he keeps digging and after I almost go thru the roof with pain, he finally gets it!

I'm still in pain so he says that he will fill it in for now and I have to go on Monday for him to finish it up. So, my tooth is killing me...don't know how since I don't have any nerves left...The specialist was a nice guy and was very sorry that he hurt me. I know it wasn't his fault - my body just doesn't react to Novacaine they way it's supposed to. He made sure that I made my appt. for Monday and told me twice to make sure I show up. I guess he thinks that I won't show up because of all the pain....it is very tempting to blow off but I need to get it fixed before I go crazy!

I have always hated going to the dentist - no matter what I have done it hurts! But, in the end not going to the dentist hurts too! I guess it's just one of those things you have to do in life that really sucks! I"m thinking of asking them next time to knock me out. Maybe then I won't be so afraid to go.

For all you dentist's out there, sorry I lump you all together but I guess I just hate the pain at the dentist office!

Ditto.  I can remember as a kid that we would hide as the time to leave for the dentist got closer.  Our first dentist didn't believe in novacaine, so we went without until we switched dentists - around 12 or so (if I remember correctly).  The dentist and the office staff can make such a difference.  I've moved around a few times as an adult - was lucky to find a dentist I liked in the 3 places I've lived as an adult.

For any that live in Vegas, I have a great dentist and my husband has been to a great endodontist for root canals.

Something about a dentist office baking cookies and offering these (plus other niceties you wouldn't expect) really makes you forget you're walking into a dentist office.  In fact, recent renovations in the waiting room makes it look like you're walking into someone's living room.

YOu and me both!!!  I'd rather have another baby than get my teeth worked on!!  My dentist is a sweetheart and I'm sure I'm no prize to have as a patient, but I have very sensitive teeth.

Wow!  Pain sounds pretty awful.  Hope you get this fixed correctly so you don't have anymore pain.  Yikes.
